Author Platform

What, you might ask, is an author platform? It’s basically a combination of who you are and who you can reach in order to sell books (for more, see publishing guru Jane Friedman’s explanation here).

Having an author platform has been key for nonfiction authors, but more and more, we think it’s important for fiction authors as well. Whether you’re writing fiction or nonfiction, making sure you put efforts into building a strong author platform can go a long way into establishing or leveraging your career as an author. Your author platform can even give you ideas as you’re writing or marketing your book(s) and increase your confidence as an author.

And if you're freaking out about social media, take a deep breath: You have our permission — and encouragement — to keep that to a minimum, because it eats up your valuable writing time and rarely leads to sales!
